In the following posts I want to start with what I see as the basics of photography. People often comment on my photos with something like "great pictures, you must have an awesome camera". I appreciate the first part "great pictures", the second part of the comment is interesting. I know it is not people's intention, but it is a bit like saying to an athlete "great run, you must have awesome shoes", or saying to an artist "Great painting, you must have awesome brushes". I would argue that the photographer composes and designs the photo. The camera is just a tool. The video on the right by DigetalRev, makes this same point. I love this video, in which a top portrait photographer is challenged to take stunning shots with a cheap camera.
