Two famous photography one-liners are "the best camera is the one you have with you" and "for good photos invest in good footwear." Both are true. You can have an extremely good camera, but if you do not have it at hand when the photo opportunity is there, it is useless. For sure some opportunities only occur once, but often you can come back to a spot multiple times and you should. Pick a spot close to home and see how the light and the scene changes during the day and during the year. If you take photos at different times of the day, it will give you a great sense of what light does to your picture. I made a short video about a place close to my place. I only spent about half an hour taking photos and already the light changed substantially. You have to walk around, though to find different angles. That is why you need to invest in good footwear.
